Morgan and Me |
The first time things began to "click" for me was my senior year of high school. The opportunity to become friends with Morgan encouraged me to find a profession where I would be able to provide appropriate interventions that empower people to be their most independent selves. The more we got to know one another, the more inspired I was by her independence. I was aware that Morgan was blind, but each day I became furthermore impressed. Although this was a "rough" time in my life, I always received so much joy from being able to positively impact Morgan's day, no matter how minuscule it may have been!
My Cabin Group from the Year I was a Head Counselor |
I began researching careers that fell under the "helping professions" once I got to college. When an undergraduate advisor informed me about occupational therapy, I knew I was headed in the right direction. Eventually, I chose the undergraduate major of therapeutic recreation where I was able to participate in camps developed for children with multiple disabilities. I was hooked from the very first camp! In addition to these life-changing opportunities, another course required me to do a site visit with an occupational therapist. At this point, I was bound and determined to make such a rewarding profession my eventual reality! I am excited and grateful to be working toward this goal, and can't wait to see what my time in school holds!
Isn't it wonderful how a relationship can have such a significant impact on each of the people involved?!? I'm so glad you found your way to OT!!
